Program Suočavanja sa prošlošću koji sprovodi QPSW
u post-jugoslovenskim zemljama podržava lokalne i regionalne
aktiviste i grupe u razvoju jakog pokreta usmjerenog ka istini,
pomirenju i suočavanju sa prošlošću na svim nivoima
društva. Gradeći povjerenje u malim krugovima, i jačajući
stvaran, iskren dijalog i duboko prepoznavanje zajedničkih ljudskih
vrijednosti, nadamo se dati doprinos postojanom ličnom, društvenom
i političkom ozdravljenju u regionu. |

Adriatic Frontiers: Communications Across Cultures, Space and Time |
|
The workshop “Adriatic Frontiers: Communications Across Cultures, Space
and Time” seeks to provide a forum for the study of the multifaceted
history of a region that has remained on the margins, despite the
increased interest in the Mediterranean. Although Fernand Braudel had
early upheld the study of interactions of Catholic, Muslim, Christian
Orthodox, and Jewish cultures on either side of political borders as a
promising field of study, few efforts have been made since then for a
greater understanding of the Adriatic, specifically, as an
intercultural space. This zone of multiple frontiers has suffered from
the fact that it is also on the periphery of specializations of
Ottoman/Middle Eastern, Italian/European, and Balkans/South Slavic
histories and their respective sources and literatures. Scattered
efforts in recent scholarship, resulting in somewhat astonishing
findings, have demonstrated that we are still far from understanding
the workings of this space between, broadly, the 14th and 19th
centuries. The proposed workshop seeks to bridge this gap by bringing
together an international group of scholars from various disciplinary
backgrounds who nonetheless share a common interest in intercultural
aspects of the Adriatic space in the past. The proposed workshop will
reframe earlier efforts in the quest to further future scholarship on
the matter. The organizers strive to achieve a mixture of established
scholars who have already made a lasting contribution to the field and
younger historians who would benefit from the meeting in their future
endeavours. (Please also see the full concept [3 pages] at http://www.eui.eu/RSCAS/Research/Mediterranean/mrm2010/desc_pdf/MRM2010_Ds11.pdf) |

Useful Media Sites for News About Conflict and Peace |
|
In today's increasingly connected world there are thousands of
resources available to obtain news and analysis about conflict and
peace related issues. However, there are not that many sites that
provide true in-depth analysis, reflection from a deep conflict or
peace perspective. Within the field of conflict resolution there has
also been a rapid growth in the field of peace journalism or peace
media. The basic concept is that instead of media reporting passively
on conflict related issues or doing a superficial analysis, or possibly
serving as a tool to inflame and escalate conflict, media practitioners
can play a critical role in getting at the roots of conflict, looking
at underlying issues, reporting in peace initiatives, etc. |

Call for abstracts: Transnational Feminisms: Revisioning Politics and Practice beyond Borders
Inanna Publications, March 2010
The publication, 'Transnational Feminisms: Revisioning Politics and
Practice beyond Borders', is designed as a graduate students'
initiative, where researchers, writers and students of women/gender and
multidisciplinary studies from diverse localities are invited to
exchange views and thoughts on the question of how we enrich and
transform our feminist theorizations and methods that go beyond
West-centric paradigm. The purpose of this journal is to contribute to
York University’s 50th anniversary and history of commitment to
international and interdisciplinary nature of academic community
building, by creating dialogues among feminist scholars from diverse
cultural and social backgrounds. We aim to create a space for dialogue
about the links and tensions between transnational feminist theory and
analysis, research, political change and social justice work. |
